Before you install

Common questions.

What exactly is Mist?

Mist is a Chrome extension that replaces the new-tab page with a customizable dashboard for search, shortcuts, time, themes and optional weather.

Is Mist free?

Yes. Mist is free to install and contains no advertising, subscriptions or paid account requirement.

Where is my setup stored?

Your groups, shortcuts, themes and preferences stay in Chrome extension storage. Mist sends only explicitly reviewed appearance fields when you choose to create a private sharing link; shortcuts, weather, names and tab identity are excluded.

How does optional weather work?

You can enter a city or let Mist estimate an approximate city from your IP address. Weather can be declined or disabled at any time, and Mist never requests precise browser geolocation.

Which browsers are supported?

Mist is available in the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons. Zen users can install the Firefox version. Edge and Safari are planned later.

Make Mist your new tab.
